Often yes, and the damp gets dealt with first. That can mean grading and gutters outside, a drain and a sump inside, or both. Finishing over a wet basement only hides it for a year.

Do I need architectural plans before I call you?

No. If you already have drawings we will work from them. If you do not, we can bring in an architect and a structural engineer and start from a conversation about what you want.

What basement and attic finishing involves

Finishing a basement or an attic is the least expensive square footage in most houses, because the structure and the roof are already there. What it takes is getting right the parts people skip. In a basement that means dealing with water before anything else goes in, insulating the walls the way code now asks for, and putting in an egress window if the space is going to be used as a bedroom. In an attic it means checking that the floor joists can carry a living load, and working out headroom and stair access before any drywall goes up.

We frame, insulate, run heating and cooling into the space, put in lighting and outlets to code, and finish with flooring, trim, doors and paint. Bathrooms and wet bars are common in basements and both need drainage planned early rather than worked around later.

All of it gets permitted and inspected. Unpermitted finished space causes problems later, when the house is appraised or sold.
